French School

Kritzinger Architects won the bid to refurbish the former Tafelberg Primary School as part of the Western Cape Government’s Regeneration Programme. The brief called for a low cost refurbishment as well as additional space for a new cafeteria and library. The old school building was re-planned to include additional classrooms and the courtyard opened up to allow natural light and cross ventilation to all classrooms. A new cafeteria and library building was designed as a contemporary addition, offering flexibility and ease of flow between the hall and sports field. A timber sunscreen provides solar control whilst still offering views out of the building. The project was short listed for the CIA Award for Architecture 2015.
