Jed and Julia’s week-end getaway is located in a little hamlet on a remote peninsula in the West Coast National Park. The cottage conforms to stringent design guidelines and draws inspiration from the local vernacular, with particular reference to fishermen’s cottages and converted stables found on nearby farms. Designed and constructed using local materials and local labour, the cottage functions off-grid using solar power, and rainwater is collected for household use. The cottage has been published in House and Leisure South Africa, Cote Ouest France, Brava Casa Italy and Ville Giardini Italy. Photos by Nicolas Matheus.
