Churchaven Cottage

The 140m2  cottage is located in a little hamlet on a remote peninsula in the West Coast National Park. The cottage conforms to stringent design guidelines set out by the Home Owners Association and draws inspiration from the local vernacular, with particular reference to local fishermen’s cottages found in the area. Designed and constructed using local materials and local labour, the cottage functions off-grid using solar power, and rainwater is collected for household use. The cottage has been published in House and Leisure South Africa, Cote Ouest France, Brava Casa Italy and Ville Giardini Italy. Photos by Nicolas Matheus.
