Cape Town International Airport (Blueprint)

Designed in anticipation of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the R1,5 billion project is the largest ever building contract awarded in the Western Cape, with a total construction area of 75 000sqm. Designing and planning a new landmark building, in a fully operational environment presented a number of challenges during the design process, resulting in a phased construction. The striking wing shaped roof celebrates the thrill of flying, while the check-in hall with its large floating roof, elegant structure and carefully themed elements evoke memories of the Cape. The project won the Best Airport in Africa Award and ranked in the Top 20 World Best Airports at the Skytrax 2010 World Airport Awards
