Somerset Barn

Kritzinger Architects were appointed to transform an old dwelling into a new family home for a young family who grew up on the property.  Although the existing dwelling was outdated and of little aesthetic value, there were some charming elements which the owners wanted to express in the new design in a subtle way such as the barn-like pitched roof and large glazed South facing facade facing the ocean. Much of the existing foundations were retained, upon which the new structure was built. Corrugated iron roof and wall cladding were incorporated into the design as a nod to many of the barn-like farm structures which can be found on the surrounding wine farms in the area. The home is currently under construction and is expected to be complete in March 2021.
